9 AM to 9:30 AM: Presentations by students (typically assigned by the attending or his staff; usually a clinical question related to patient care that requires the student to search the literature or topic presentation)
9:30 AM to 1 PM: You will see patients with the attending via Zoom. The attending will enter the room and introduce the students to the patient. As the attending takes the history, he will involve the students. He will ask the students what they are thinking and what they would like to do. At times, he will have the students ask the patient questions. There may be opportunities for the student to interview the patient. Following the encounters, there will be time to reflect upon what you have seen with the team. This period of reflection and discussion will help ensure that you are making the most of the patient care experience.

Testimonials
My family medicine rotation with Dr. X at Island Primary Medical Care was a valuable and rewarding learning experience. Dr. X is a thorough, compassionate, and dedicated physician who models patient-centered care. The doctor creates a welcoming learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, discussing clinical reasoning, and learning from experiences. Dr. X provides guidance with patience and respect, helping learners build confidence while maintaining high standards of patient care.
The rotation offered meaningful participation in outpatient family medicine, including history taking, physical examinations, discussion of differential diagnoses and treatment plans, preventive screening, and patient counseling. Exposure to chronic disease management, cognitive and mental health screening, and advance care planning helped me appreciate the breadth of family medicine.
Working alongside the office team strengthened my understanding of clinical workflows, teamwork, and care coordination. Above all, observing Dr. X's thoughtful attention to patients reinforced the importance of compassion, clear communication, and continuity of care. I am grateful for Dr. X's mentorship and would highly recommend this rotation to learners interested in family medicine.
