Outpatient US Clinical Experience in Internal Medicine

What you will do:

You will be under the supervision of a board-certified internal medicine physician who is on staff at Wellstar Atlanta Medical Center and Piedmont Newnan Hospital. This physician is dedicated to partnering with patients to help them reach their goals. This involves having a strong understanding of their needs and then creating plans that are tailored to each patient's unique situation. This preceptor is a strong proponent of prevention and wellness.

Students rotating in this practice will appreciate the strong relationships this physician has established with patients and how the depth of the relationships physicians establish with their patients can enhance patient care and outcomes. Patients in this practice are known on a personal level, and are treated with the respect, compassion, and attention that they deserve.

During your experience, you will learn the following U.S. medical practices under the preceptor’s supervision:

  • Taking patient histories.

  • Performing exams under the physician's supervision.

  • Presenting patients.

  • Researching the literature to answer clinical questions at the point of care.

  • Educating patients.

  • Teaching other team members.

  • Working with other healthcare professionals to understand the roles and responsibilities of these team members.

Who should consider this rotation:

International medical graduates (IMGs) and students seeking US clinical experience in internal medicine.

How to obtain a letter of recommendation:

The rotator should ask the preceptor for a LOR near the conclusion of the rotation. Dr. Desai has provided the physician with guidelines about best practices in letter writing that meet residency program requirements. In some cases, the preceptor may ask the rotator to write a letter of recommendation draft.

During the rotation:

Our team will be checking in periodically with you to ensure that you are having an optimal experience. We encourage you to contact us if you have any questions during the rotation.

Testimonials

Dr. X is an amazing doctor. The biggest thing I learnt from him was patient interaction. Never seen patients loving their doctor so much. Truly the best to learn communication from! He is a great influence to students because he demonstrates how he keeps his patients above everything else. He also gives constructive feedback to his students and remembers details so well. He would always go out of the way to teach us and give the experience we need. He is also very understanding and cooperative when it comes to team work in the hospital, which is something that highly impressed me. It is unbelievable how he manages so much in a day. He also always made sure we learn about the patients we see and taught us how notes are typed
in the healthcare system. It was truly the best rotation I had in the US. Thank you so much for this!
