Information about this clinical experience:
This is an inpatient experience during which you will be under the supervision of a board-certified radiologist. The attending is an Associate Professor of Radiology at the University of Miami who is actively involved in the education of radiology residents.
In this clinical experience, rotators will be exposed to both diagnostic and interventional radiology. Your time will be split between the primary attending, the attending’s colleagues, and radiology residents.
Time spent in diagnostic radiology will allow the student to obtain an overview of the specialty, become familiar with different imaging modalities, and gain knowledge in film interpretation. The interventional radiology component of the experience will introduce the student to the types of procedures performed in the specialty. Learners will become familiar with the indications and contraindications of commonly performed procedures and the perioperative evaluation and management of patients undergoing these procedures. Rotators may be permitted to scrub into these cases, providing an excellent opportunity to observe these procedures close-up.
As this experience takes place in a hospital which houses a radiology residency program, rotators may accompany residents to didactics and conferences (please note that the hospital has an additional charge that the rotator must pay. This will be refunded to you by us.)
Some useful resources to make the most of your learning include the following:
Please note that because of hospital policies this will be an observership.
Who should consider this rotation:
International medical graduates (IMGs) and students seeking US clinical experience in Radiology.
How to obtain a letter of recommendation:
The rotator should ask the preceptor for a LOR near the conclusion of the rotation. Dr. Desai has provided the physician with guidelines about best practices in letter writing that meet residency program requirements. In some cases, the preceptor may ask the rotator to write a letter of recommendation draft.
During the rotation:
Our team will be checking in periodically with you to ensure that you are having an optimal experience. We encourage you to contact us if you have any questions during the rotation.
Testimonials
Dr. X is great at creating an approachable, welcoming environment. The doctor listens actively to students and residents, gives clear feedback, and integrates you into the team. You need to be proactive to contribute and get the most out of the experience, but Dr. X is very receptive once you step forward. The service sees a large Spanish-speaking patient population, so conversational proficiency or at least a solid comprehension of Spanish is helpful. The rotation follows a well-structured daily schedule with morning report, rounds, and afternoon conferences, offering solid teaching across various internal medicine topics and regular interaction with other teams.
