How does your personal statement review and editing service differ from other services?

We take a two-pronged approach to the development of the personal statement. In the first stage, we focus only on the development of content. Once the content is finalized, we then focus on editing of the statement. 
 
The process begins with Dr. Desai reviewing your CV and then creating a personalized personal statement questionnaire for you to complete. The goal is to learn as much as possible about you, your background, your credentials, and your interests. Review of your detailed answers will allow Dr. Desai to recommend a personal statement structure that will lead to the inclusion of content that is most appealing to residency programs. If you have a draft, you are welcome to submit it along with the questionnaire. Please note, however, that a draft is not required.

Why is this questionnaire so important?

Residency and fellowship programs will be evaluating your statement partly based on content. In Dr. Desai's experience, it's common for applicants to leave out important content, information that would be appealing to programs in their decision-making process.

What makes you stand out from other applicants? In Dr. Desai's experience, all applicants have something that makes them stand out. It may not be apparent to the applicant, but completion of our questionnaire often sheds light on these factors. Without this initial step, important content may not be identified and incorporated into the statement.

What happens after the personal statement structure is developed?

You will have a chance to review the structure and to make any changes to the structure. Once the applicant has agreed to the structure, the next step will be to finalize the content and produce a draft. If there are no issues with content, the draft will be submitted to one of our writing experts. Our writing experts have been trained at some of our nation's top universities, including Harvard University, Rice University, and University of California Berkeley.

What does the writing expert do?

Our writing expert will offer specific comments about your draft. We will identify mistakes, offer tips on word choice, and point out ways to use fewer words to make the same points and impact. Sentence structure, flow, and transitions between paragraphs will also be addressed.
