Hospital Letterhead: No

Faculty Appointment: Yes - Southern Hills Hospital, Medical Center Neurology Residency Program, & Touro University

Information about this clinical experience:

You will be under the supervision of a physician who is board-certified in neurology. The preceptor is a core faculty member of a neurology residency program, and is actively involved in the education of neurology residents. Neurology residents rotate through the clinic, and the preceptor also rounds daily in the hospital with residents of the program. This is a neurology residency program based at three hospitals - Southern Hills Hospital and Medical Center, Mountain View Hospital, and Sunrise Children's Hospital and Medical Center.

This is an office-based neurology rotation during which you will see patients with a wide variety of neurological conditions. You will be able to hone your skills in history-taking, gain confidence in your ability to perform the neurological exam, present cases, and document your findings. Opportunities to observe procedures in the office, including EEG and NCV, will be made available to rotators.

On Thursday afternoons, you will take part in the academic half-day with the residents. These are didactics that have been developed for the neurology residents. These will take place either in-person or via Zoom.

During your experience, you will learn the following U.S. medical practices under the preceptor’s supervision:

  • Taking patient histories.

  • Perfroming exams under the physician's supervision.

  • Presenting patients.

  • Entering notes in the EMR.

  • Researching the literature to answer clinical questions at the point of care.

  • Educating patients.

  • Gaining an understanding of the roles and responsibilities of other healthcare professionals.

Who should consider this rotation:

International medical graduates (IMGs) and students seeking US clinical experience in neurology.

How to obtain a letter of recommendation:

The rotator should ask the preceptor for a LOR near the conclusion of the rotation. Dr. Desai has provided the physician with guidelines about best practices in letter writing that meet residency program requirements. In some cases, the preceptor may ask the rotator to write a letter of recommendation draft.

During the rotation:

Our team will be checking in periodically with you to ensure that you are having an optimal experience. We encourage you to contact us if you have any questions during the rotation.

Testimonials

I had the privilege of working with Dr. X during my psychiatry telerotation, and the experience was nothing short of exceptional. Dr. X is not only highly knowledgeable in psychiatry but also deeply compassionate and insightful. The doctor's ability to create a safe, engaging learning environment made it easy to ask questions, reflect critically, and grow clinically. Dr. X's commitment to patient-centered care was admirable and the doctor consistently provided thoughtful feedback that challenged me to think more. Dr. X supported my development in conducting thorough psychiatric interviews. Ultimately, I completed this rotation more confident, more inspired, and more committed to the field of psychiatry. I am genuinely grateful for the opportunity to have trained under such an outstanding mentor.
