Outpatient US Clinical Experience in Internal Medicine in Detroit

Information about this clinical experience:

This is an outpatient experience during which you will be under the supervision of a highly regarded physician educator who is board-certified in Internal Medicine. The preceptor is involved in the teaching and mentoring of internal medicine residents from the DMC/Huron Valley Hospital as well as students from the Michigan State University School of Osteopathic Medicine and University of Michigan Clinical Nurse Practitioner Program. The doctor holds staff appointments at DMC/Huron Valley Hospital and William Beaumont Hospital - Royal Oak.

During your experience, you will learn the following U.S. medical practices under the preceptor’s supervision:

• Taking patient histories.

• Performing physical exams under the physician's supervision.

• Presenting patients.

• Writing or entering clinic progress notes.

• Have opportunities to research the literature to answer clinical questions at the point of care.

• Be involved in patient education.

• Teaching other team members.

• Spending time with other healthcare professionals to understand their roles and responsibilities.

You may have an opportunity to attend an occasional conference at DMC/Huron Valley Hospital.
