Information about this clinical experience:

This is an outpatient US clinical experience during which you will be under the supervision of a physician who is board certified in Family Medicine. The preceptor holds hospital privileges at the University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center and Anne Arundel Medical Center.  For years, the doctor has been actively involved in the education of international medical students from different schools. The preceptor describes his rotation in the following manner:

I have been in practice for over 30 years...I have a large amount of patients with different diagnoses so students have a very wide spectrum to learn from. Our staff is very friendly, and are willing to learn from and work with new students. They value the opportunity.

During your experience, you will learn the following U.S. medical practices under the preceptor’s supervision:

  • Taking patient histories under supervision.

  • Examining patients under supervision.

  • Writing or entering clinic or progress notes.

  • Having opportunities to research the literature to answer clinical questions at the point of care.

Who should consider this rotation:

How to obtain a letter of recommendation:

The rotator should ask the preceptor for a LOR near the conclusion of the rotation. Dr. Desai has provided the physician with guidelines about best practices in letter writing that meet residency program requirements. In some cases, the preceptor may ask the rotator to write a letter of recommendation draft.

Our team will be checking in periodically with you to ensure that you are having an optimal experience. We encourage you to contact us if you have any questions during the rotation.

Testimonials

During my rotation in April with Dr. X, I observed several notable strengths. Dr. X is committed to teaching and fostering a supportive and engaging learning environment. The doctor provides ample opportunities for hands-on learning, allowing students to feel like integral members of the medical team. Moreover, Dr. X exemplifies a passion for medicine, evident in the doctor's exceptional care and compassion toward patients. The doctor's high level of professionalism and human warmth make the doctor an inspiring role model. Learning from someone with such dedication and quality of character was truly valuable and greatly enriched my experience during this rotation.
