Outpatient US Clinical Experience in Family Medicine in New York

Information about this clinical experience:

You will be under the supervision of a physician who is board-certified in Family Medicine and Geriatrics with considerable teaching experience. The preceptor is on staff at Good Samaritan Hospital and St. Joseph's Hospital Long Island. The physician is involved in the education of family medicine residents at Good Samaritan Hospital. The doctor has been educating international medical graduates for several decades.

Rotators in this practice will learn from a physician who has made significant contributions to our profession in different ways. The preceptor has actively been involved in giving back not only to the local community but also abroad. The doctor has arranged for the shipment of medical equipment to various hospitals and assembled teams to perform procedures in underserved patients living in under-resourced areas. When disasters have struck, the doctor has led efforts to bring medical care to these areas. With a background in geriatrics, the preceptor has developed and launched programs abroad to improve the care of the elderly. 

During your experience, you will learn the following U.S. medical practices under the preceptor’s supervision:

• Taking patient histories.

• Performing physical exams under the physician's supervision.

• Presenting patients.

• Writing or entering clinic progress notes.

• Researching the literature to answer clinical questions at the point of care.

• Educating patients.

• Spending time with other healthcare professionals in the office to understand their roles and responsibilities.
