Outpatient US Clinical Experience in Cardiology in Orlando

Specialties: Cardiology

Location: Orlando

Price:

Hospital Letterhead: No

Faculty Appointment: Yes – Florida State University College of Medicine

Information about this clinical experience:

This is an outpatient experience where you will be under the supervision of a board-certified cardiologist who is Clinical Assistant Professor at Florida State University College of Medicine. The preceptor holds hospital privileges at institutions within the AdventHealth System.

The physician has an excellent bedside manner and is known to spend time with patients making them feel heard and understood. The close relationships that this physician has built over a long period of time have allowed the practice to improve patient outcomes and satisfaction. For rotators, this will be an excellent opportunity to work with a compassionate and caring role model committed to the delivery of high-quality care.

New patients to the practice undergo a thorough cardiac evaluation with a focus on past medical history, family history, social history, and current symptoms. Every aspect of the patient’s presentation is carefully considered to identify problems, form assessments, and establish the next steps for diagnosis and treatment. Established patients are carefully assessed at follow-up appointments to ensure treatment goals are being met.

In this practice, the major emphasis is on the prevention of cardiovascular disease. Through this experience, you will deepen your understanding of risk factors for cardiovascular disease and learn how to aggressively manage these risk factors to prevent cardiac events. You will not only be exposed to primary prevention efforts, but also to patients with established cardiovascular disease in need of secondary prevention. You will be able to appreciate how lifestyle modification and evidence-based pharmacotherapy can reduce risk in these patients.

The practice has the capability to perform tests on site, including EKGs, echocardiograms, and cardiac stress tests. For the learner, this will be an excellent opportunity to understand the indications for these tests and how these procedures are performed and interpreted.

During your experience, you will learn the following U.S. medical practices under the preceptor’s supervision:

  • Taking patient histories.

  • Performing physical exams under the physician's supervision.

  • Presenting patients.

  • Entering clinic notes (eClinicalWorks)

  • Have opportunities to research the literature to answer clinical questions at the point of care.

  • Spending time with other healthcare professionals to understand their roles and responsibilities

Who should consider this rotation:

International medical graduates (IMGs) and students seeking US clinical experience in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine since cardiology problems are commonly encountered in these specialties.

How to obtain a letter of recommendation:

The rotator should ask the preceptor for a LOR near the conclusion of the rotation. Dr. Desai has provided the physician with guidelines about best practices in letter writing that meet residency program requirements. In some cases, the preceptor may ask the rotator to write a letter of recommendation draft

During the rotation:

Our team will be checking in periodically with you to ensure that you are having an optimal experience. We encourage you to contact us if you have any questions during the rotation.
