Information about this clinical experience:
You will work under the supervision of a physician who is a board-certified pathologist. This physician is a well-regarded educator, mentor, and leader, and holds a faculty appointment as an Associate Clinical Professor at a major academic medical center. The attending is involved in the education of pathology fellows. Please note that there is a $100 hospital fee that is the responsibility of the rotator.
Rotators will be able to experience the following during this rotation:
One-on-one “on the scope” microscopy session with the faculty mentor
Slide session with surgical pathology fellow
Consensus conference (daily)
Tumor Board
Journal Club
Grand Rounds
Other departmental didactic conferences/lectures
Online resources that will be utilized during this rotation include:
Daily/weekly assignments will be given to the rotator to enhance their learning experience. The rotator will be expected to present an interesting case or journal article at the end of the rotation.
Opportunities to work on a project or case report may be available to interested students. Please note that the availability of such projects is at the discretion of the attending. Students interested in participating should let the attending know early in their rotation.

International medical graduates (IMGs) and students seeking US clinical experience in pathology should consider this rotation.
How to obtain a letter of recommendation:
The rotator should ask the preceptor for a LOR near the conclusion of the rotation. Dr. Desai has provided the physician with guidelines about best practices in letter writing that meet residency program requirements. In some cases, the preceptor may ask the rotator to write a letter of recommendation draft.

This was a wonderful rotation, especially for a first clinical experience. Dr. X is a friendly and knowledgeable mentor. The doctor fostered a comfortable environment to ask questions and clear any doubts. The staff was kind and welcoming too. The clinic had good patient flow, which was more than enough to gain a good clinical experience. Dr. X gives complete access to the EMR and lets students talk to the patient, get H&P and examine them as well. I had access to 3 different EMR systems in this rotation, which was very helpful. The doctor also encouraged topic presentations and had daily didactic sessions. Dr. X also helped me gain insight into what to expect from residency and US healthcare system. Overall a fantastic rotation and I'm grateful to Dr. X for helping me with my first rotation.
