Combined Inpatient & Outpatient US Clinical Experience in Obstetrics & Gynecology in San Antonio
Specialties: Obstetrics & Gynecology
Location: San Antonio
Price: $2,895
Information about this clinical experience:
You will be under the supervision of a physician who is board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology. This is a physician who is a dedicated educator with considerable experience in teaching, having taught U.S. medical students, international medical students, and international medical graduates. The preceptor holds hospital privileges at St. Luke's Baptist Hospital and Methodist Healthcare, and is a faculty member at the University of Incarnate Word School of Osteopathic Medicine. The physician is known for providing holistic care to patients with a focus on meeting both physical and psychological needs.
In this practice, students will have the opportunity to be actively involved in patient care, seeing a wide range of problems in general obstetrics and gynecology. Common problems that you will encounter include prenatal and postnatal care, abnormal bleeding, menopause, abdominal/pelvic pain, vaginal discharge, abdominal/pelvic mass, and abnormal Pap smear. Because the preceptor has expertise with the management of infertility, students will also gain an understanding of how to best support patients trying to conceive.
Rotators will accompany the preceptor to the hospital approximately once per week for surgical cases or deliveries. Over the course of a four-week clinical experience, the physician has, on average, seven deliveries.
During your experience, you will learn the following U.S. medical practices under the preceptor’s supervision:
Taking patient histories.
Performing exams under the physician's supervision.
Presenting patients.
Researching the literature to answer clinical questions at the point of care.
Giving topic presentations to the team.
Developing an understanding of the roles and responsibilities of other healthcare professionals.
Who should consider this rotation:
International medical graduates (IMGs) and students seeking US clinical experience in obstetrics and gynecology. Please note that, because of the preferences of this physician's patient population, only female students are eligible to complete this rotation.
How to obtain a letter of recommendation:
The rotator should ask the preceptor for a LOR near the conclusion of the rotation. Dr. Desai has provided the physician with guidelines about best practices in letter writing that meet residency program requirements. In some cases, the preceptor may ask the rotator to write a letter of recommendation draft.
During the rotation:
Our team will be checking in periodically with you to ensure that you are having an optimal experience. We encourage you to contact us if you have any questions during the rotation.
Testimonials
Dr. X is a great physician and an inspiration to someone like me who is just starting to build their career. You can tell that Dr. X has a strong grasp of clinical knowledge by the way the doctor approaches a case and plans its management. Dr. X treats patients, continuously learns something from everyone, takes time to teach no matter how late it is in the day, and somehow manages to do all of that with the same enthusiasm and energy throughout the week. I've gained not just medical knowledge but also a fresh perspective on living in the US and building a career.
