Outpatient US Clinical Experience in Pediatrics

What you will do:

You will be under the supervision of a physician who is board certified in pediatrics. She is on staff at the Wake Med Cary Hospital.  As an IMG herself, this preceptor is sensitive to the issues that IMGs face in adjusting to the U.S. healthcare system and navigating the challenges of securing positions in residency training programs. Her aim is to provide a strong educational experience that helps the learner build important clinical skills, gain familiarity with how medicine is practiced in the U.S., and reach their professional goals. She is also actively involved in the education of osteopathic medical and physician assistant students.

After a few days of observation, you will take on an increasing role in patient encounters and learn the following under the preceptor’s supervision:

  • Taking patient histories.
