Inpatient/Outpatient US Clinical Experience in General Surgery
What you will do:
You will be under the supervision of a board-certified general surgeon who completed fellowship training in minimally invasive surgery. Through this training, the attending has acquired advanced skills in laparoscopy and robotic surgery. This expertise allows the surgeon to perform surgeries with smaller incisions, permitting patients to recover quicker and return to normal life with less pain. The physician is a core faculty member of the University of Houston College of Medicine General Surgery Residency Program. The attending is on staff at Houston Methodist Hospital, Memorial Hermann Hospital, and HCA Houston Healthcare.
Three days of the week will be spent in the outpatient clinic. The other two days will be hospital-based with the bulk of the time spent in the operating room. Typical OR cases include laparoscopic cholecystectomy, hernia repair (inguinal, incisional, umbilical), and colon resection.
