ANESTHESIOLOGY

Outpatient Experience in Anesthesiology

Specialty: Anesthesiology

MD2B Connect Physician ID # 81

Where will this rotation take place: This outpatient rotation will take place in College Station, Texas (home to Texas A & M University and approximately 90 miles from Houston).

Hours: Monday - Thursday 7:30 AM to 3 PM

What you will do: You will be under the supervision of a board-certified anesthesiologist who also completed a pain management fellowship. He is a member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, and has presented his research at anesthesiology meetings across the country. He has developed expertise in cutting-edge interventional pain procedures, and utilizes his breadth of knowledge and technical ability to provide relief to patients suffering with pain. He believes that all patients should be treated as if they were family, and strives to instill the same feeling in future physicians. He is a staff member at CHI/St. Joseph Health and Physician's Center Hospital.

You will see patients in his office (approximately 20-25 patients are seen per day). After a few days of observation, you will take on an increasing role in patient care:

  • You will take patient histories.

  • You will perform exams under the physician's supervision.

  • You will present patients.

  • You will write or enter clinic notes

  • You will research the literature to answer clinical questions at the point of care.

  • You will educate patients.

  • You will observe a variety of procedures.

You will receive regular feedback on your performance.

Although this experience is largely clinical, there may be opportunities to participate in projects in the physician's office. Examples include development of case reports, patient education handouts, and content for the practice website. Please note that the availability of these projects is at the discretion of the preceptor.

Who should consider this rotation: IMG seeking hands-on patient care experience in anesthesiology or pain medicine.

Will a letter of recommendation be offered: Yes, assuming that the IMG meets the expectations of the rotation. Dr. Desai will provide the physician with guidelines which will improve the quality of the letter.

During the rotation: Our team will be checking in periodically with you to ensure that you are having an optimal experience. We encourage you to contact us if you have any questions during the rotation.
